Privacy Policy
Last updated 16 October 2026
The short version
- We collect only what we need to run ALGOLLAM: your name, email, role and your learning activity.
- We never sell your personal data or use it for advertising.
- Other students see you by first name and last initial only.
- Parents can follow a student’s progress only after the student shares their enrolment ID.
- Payments are handled by Paystack. We never see your card number.
- You can ask us to see, correct or delete your data at any time.
1. Who we are
ALGOLLAM (“we”, “us”) is registered in Nigeria as an incorporated trustees organisation under the Companies and Allied Matters Act 2020. We run www.algollam.com, a learning platform that teaches young people and adults software engineering and AI through courses, live online programmes and mentoring. We work with learners in Nigeria, the United Kingdom and elsewhere, sometimes in partnership with schools, churches and community organisations.
We are responsible for the personal data described in this policy. If you have any questions, email us at support@algollam.com.
2. Information we collect
We collect only what we need to run ALGOLLAM:
- Account details: your name, email address, role (student, parent, mentor), and a securely hashed password. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email and profile picture from Google.
- Profile and registration details you choose to give us, such as your school, year or level, location, how you heard about us, and why you joined a programme.
- Learning activity: lessons viewed and completed, attendance at live sessions, assignments and files you submit, grades and feedback, questions and answers you post, points, badges and certificates.
- Payment records: the course, amount, date, status and payment reference. Payments are processed by Paystack; we never see or store your full card number or security code.
- Messages you send us, and your email preferences.
- Technical information needed to keep the service secure and working, such as your IP address, browser and device type, sign-in times and error logs.
3. How we use your information
We use your information to:
- create and secure your account, and keep you signed in;
- deliver courses and live sessions, record attendance and progress, and issue certificates;
- let mentors review and grade your work, and answer your questions;
- show leaderboards and badges (other students see only your first name and last initial);
- send you service emails, such as sign-in codes, session reminders, receipts and programme announcements;
- tell you about new courses, unless you turn this off in Settings;
- process payments and refunds;
- understand how the platform is used so we can improve it, using totals and trends rather than individual profiles;
- keep the platform safe, prevent misuse, and meet our legal obligations.
4. Our legal reasons for using your information
Under UK data protection law (UK GDPR) and the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023, we rely on: providing the service you signed up for (contract); our legitimate interests in running, securing and improving an education platform, balanced against your rights; your consent, for optional things like new-course emails, which you can withdraw at any time; and legal obligations, such as keeping payment records.
5. Children and young people
Many of our learners are under 18. We design the platform with that in mind: we collect the minimum information, show students to each other by first name and last initial only, never use students’ data for advertising, and do not sell anyone’s data.
Where the law requires it because of a student’s age, we ask for a parent or guardian’s consent. A parent or guardian can link to their child’s account to follow their progress, but only after the child shares their enrolment ID. Parents and guardians can contact us at any time to ask about, correct or delete their child’s information.
7. International transfers
Our service providers may store or process data outside the country you live in, including in the United Kingdom, the European Union and the United States. When this happens we use providers with appropriate safeguards, such as standard contractual clauses.
8. How long we keep information
We keep your account and learning records while your account is active, so you keep your progress and certificates. If you delete your account (in Settings, or by emailing us), we delete or anonymise your personal data within 30 days, except where we must keep some records longer, for example payment records for tax and accounting.
9. Keeping your information safe
We use encrypted connections (HTTPS), hashed passwords, one-time sign-in codes for staff accounts, role-based access so people see only what they need, and signed links for files. No system is perfectly secure, so please keep your password private and tell us straight away if you think your account has been misused.
10. Your rights
You can ask us to:
- give you a copy of your personal data;
- correct anything that is wrong (you can also update your name and details in Settings);
- delete your data, or restrict or object to how we use it;
- transfer your data to you or another service in a common format;
- stop optional emails (use Settings or the unsubscribe link in any email).
11. How to use your rights or complain
Email support@algollam.com. We will reply within one month. If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk) in the UK or the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (ndpc.gov.ng) in Nigeria, but please contact us first so we can try to help.
13. Changes to this policy
If we make important changes, we will tell you by email or on the platform before they take effect. The date at the top shows when this policy was last updated.
